Edinburgh-born actress; made her name as Diane, Ewan McGregor's teenage seducer in Danny Boyle's Trainspotting (1996). Played Isabel Knollys in Elizabeth (1998) and Hortense Hulot in the Balzac-inspired Cousin Bette (1998). Other films include My Life So Far (1999), Gosford Park (2002) and No Country For Old Men (2008), for which she was nominated for a BAFTA and won the London Film Critics' Circle award for Supporting Actress of the Year. She is also known for her role as Margaret Thompson in the television crime drama Boardwalk Empire (2010-14).
