Robbie Coltrane

A critically-acclaimed television, film and theatre actor, Coltrane showed his versatility in memorable comedic and straight roles from Blackadder to crime dramas and James Bond films. He won BAFTA awards three years in a row for his role as the psychologist Fitz in Cracker (1993-2006) and another in 2017 for his role as a former comedian in National Treasure (2016). Born in Rutherglen, near Glasgow, he studied painting at Glasgow School of Art, where he also began acting on stage. In the 1980s he featured in television sketch comedies such as Alfresco (1983-4) and The Comic Strip Presents series (1982-2012), alongside Emma Thompson, Stephen Fry, Ben Elton, Hugh Laurie and Rik Mayall. His film roles included Absolute Beginners (1985), Nuns on the Run (1989), Goldeneye (1995) and The World is Not Enough (1999), but he was best known internationally for his role as Hagrid in the Harry Potter films.
