Nell Dunn
(1936-), Novelist and playwright; daughter of Sir Philip Gordon Dunn, 2nd BtSitter in 4 portraits
Breaking with her upper class upbringing, Dunn's move to the South London district of Battersea and factory work greatly inspired her writing. She came to prominence with her award-winning short stories Up The Junction (1963), adapted for television (1965) by Ken Loach and for cinema (1968). Her bestselling first novel Poor Cow was also adapted into film by Loach (1967).
