Philip John Sutton

Philip Sutton studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, London (1948-53) and subsequently taught there (1954-63). In 1963 he spent a year painting in Australia and Fiji, where his wife Heather made a film, Philip Sutton Working in Fiji. His vibrant oil paintings and woodcuts can be found in public collections including those of Tate Britain and the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne. He married Heather in 1954, and his painting Heather in a Green Dress is owned by the Government Art Collection. Elected a Royal Academician in 1989.
