Tsugouharu Foujita
(1886-1968), Painter and graphic artistSitter in 5 portraits
The Japanese artist Foujita moved to Montparnasse in Paris in 1913. There he frequented the artists' cafés, became friends with Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse and was acquainted with Amedeo Modigliani, Chaim Soutine, and Fernand Léger. Man Ray's model Kiki was a frequent visitor to his first studio and posed for the painter. Foujita returned to Paris after spending the war years in Japan.
