Best known for his irreverent and detailed figurative portraits, Pearson Wright grew up in Eastbourne and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art (1995-99). He won the BP Travel Award in 1998 and the BP Portrait Award in 2001. The National Portrait Gallery subsequently acquired paintings of John Hurt, Adam Cooper and J.K. Rowling, plus a series of drawings which were displayed in Most People are Other People (2006). He is quoted as saying 'I've always been ruthlessly ambitious, hungry and driven - I knew it wouldn't happen to me unless I made it happen.'
