Arthur Bourchier

(1863-1927), Actor, theatre manager and dramatist

Actor and manager, Bourchier began his professional career with Lillie Langtry's company. He entered theatre management in 1890, and subsequently ran a number of London's theatres where he oversaw productions of Shakespeare, Arthur Wing Pinero and W.S. Gilbert. In 1910 he joined Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree at His Majesty's Theatre, and appeared in numerous Shakespearean roles. In 1917 Bourchier scored a memorable success as Old Bill the soldier in Charles B. Cochran's topical show The Better 'Ole at the Oxford Music Hall.
