Herbert George Romeril
(1881-1963), Labour politician; MP for St Pancras South EastSitter in 1 portrait
He started work as a railway clerk in London aged 15. He was an active Trade Unionist and became a member of the National Executive Committee of the Railway Clerks Association (Union, now TSSA). Between 1912 and 1916 he was President of the Railway Clerks Association. He joined the Independent Labour Party (ILP) in 1906 and served as the ILP Branch Secretary for Ealing and Chairman of West London ILP Federation and Chairman of the ILP Metropolitan London District Council. He was elected as the Member of Parliament for St Pancras South East in 1923, he was the first Railway Clerks Association (TSSA) member to enter Parliament on 6 December 1923. In the 1924 election he lost his seat but was re-elected in 1929 to 1931.

Herbert is the father of Beryl Hockley, who was the first female vision mixer at the BBC and was part of the team that restarted the BBC after the Second World War.
