Joseph Thornthwaite

J. Thornthwaite was a London painter and line engraver working in the eighteenth century. He worked mainly for publishers, notably for Bell's Shakespeare and British Theatre. He also produced some portraits.

According to the Oxford Dictionary National Biography, article on John Hall (1739–1797) the engraver, Hall's studio handled the plates for Bell's theatrical prints. Joseph Thornthwaite, apprenticed to Hall in 1769, worked on them, with Burnet Reading.
