The Austrian actress made her stage debut in Berlin in 1932 before moving to Paris after the Nazi takeover and appearing in an operetta staged in the Moulin Rouge. She made her screen debut in London in Crime Unlimited (1935). After ten years in Britain appearing on stage and in films she moved to America with her first husband Rex Harrison in 1945.
