Margaret Ethel ('Storm') Jameson

Born in Whitby, North Yorkshire, Margaret Ethel Jameson studied at Leeds University and King's College, London. The author of 45 novels, poems, essays and reviews, Jameson managed to earn a living primarily through writing after 1928 enjoying a bohemian and anarchic life in London. Her first novel was published in 1919 but The Lovely Ship (1927) part of the trilogy; The Triumph of Time was the first to be critically acclaimed. Several of her novels were inspired by her knowledge of Europe and a love of France and include The Black Laurel (1948), A Cup of Tea for Mr Thorgill (1957) and The White Crow (1968). She campaigned vigorously for many writers threatened by fascist governments in Europe.
