The Rev. H.P. Stokes seems to have been something of an expert on portraits of Chatterton and an article he wrote on the subject is cited in various books on the poet. However, I have been quite unable to trace a copy of Stokes' article which appeared in the Bristol Times and Mirror of 18th April 1883. The various newspaper archives do not seem to hold that issue of the paper. Please let me know if you have access to it.

The reference cited below has a lot of interesting information on depictions of Chatterton including the reference to Stokes' article.

It would be nice if your Chatterton page could be beefed up.
