Robin Gibson
(1944-2010), Chief Curator, National Portrait GallerySitter in 6 portraits
Robin Gibson joined the National Portrait Gallery, London in 1968. He was Chief Curator at the National Portrait Gallery from 1994 to 2001 and pioneered the 20th century galleries and organised many portrait commissions and exhibitions. His publications include British Portrait Painters (jointly 1971), Flower Painting (1976), 20th Century Portraits (1978), The Portrait Now (1993), The Sitwells (jointly, 1994) and The Face in the Corner (1998). He was appointed OBE in 2001 and died in 2010 aged 66.
