Louise Dahl-Wolfe

One of the great photographers of her era, Louise Dah-Wolfe's contributions to Harper's Bazaar magazine from 1936 to 1958 included eighty-six covers. Born in San Francisco, she studied at the San Francisco Institute of Art. She was inspired to begin her own photographic experiments by the work of photographer Anne Brigman. In the 1920s she spent some time in Paris making documentary films and she set up her first studio in New York in the early 1930s. She soon became part of the celebrated Harper's Bazaar creative team. After her long association with Harper's ended she continued to work as a photographer for magazines including Vogue and Sports Illustrated.
