Cliff came to prominence in the late 1950s at the age of eighteen with his debut single 'Move It' (1958), which reached No. 2 in the UK chart. He achieved his first No. 1 record in 1959 with Lionel Bart's ‘Living Doll’, and went on to have a string of hits in the early 1960s including 'Summer Holiday' (1962). Performing with his backing group, The Shadows, he presented himself as the British Elvis Presley. In the 1960s he starred in six musical films and in 1968 came second with 'Congratulations' in the Eurovision Song Contest.
