Thérèse Oulton

(1953-), Painter

Sitter in 2 portraits
Born in Shropshire, Oulton studied at St Martin's School of Art and the Royal College of Art. She painted impasto abstract works, using her fingers rather than brushes to manipulate the paint surface, creating a more visceral effect. Following her first solo exhibition at Gimpel Fils in 1984, Oulton’s work has been exhibited in group and solo shows worldwide, including many at Marlborough Fine Art. She was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 1987.
