Isabella van Beverweerd or Elizabeth married Henry Bennet, later Earl of Arlington in 1666. Lely's portrait was commissioned to celebrate the marriage. The Countess of Arlington was prominent at the court of Charles II and with her husband was influential in promoting mistresses as tokens of political alliance.
