Singer and band member of Blur, whose chart-topping album Parklife (1994) announced the band's leading position in the BritPop movement. In 1995 Blur won five Brit awards. Further albums The Great Escape (1995), Blur (1997), 13 (1999) and Blur: the best of (2000) followed. Albarn is also a co-founder of the virtual band Gorillaz. He has written music for film and theatre, such as his work for the film Ravenous (1999) and the opera projects Monkey: Journey to the West (2007) and Dr Dee (2011).
