Hans Keller

(1919-1985), Musician and musicologist

Musician and musicologist. Born in Vienna, Keller escaped after the Anschluss, made his way to England and settled here, becoming a naturalised British subject in 1948. He became music adviser to the British Film Institute and founded, with Donald Mitchell, the periodical Music Survey. Influential in broadcasting and as a critic, he joined the Music Division of the BBC in 1959 and remained there until his retirement twenty years later.
