Winifred Atwell was a Trinidadian-born pianist and entertainer. She studied classical music in New York before moving to London and gaining a contract with Decca records. Atwell produced a string of 'ragtime' hits mostly on her honky-tonk piano including Britannia Rag (1952), Let's Have a Party (1953) and a number one record with Poor People of Paris (1956).
