Blondie were originally a New York based quintet fronted by Miami-born ex-Bunny Girl Deborah Harry whose first major hit Denis (1977) was followed by chart-toppers Heart of Glass, Sunday Girl, Atomic, Call Me and Tide is High. The multi-million selling album Parallel Lines (1978) continued their success. Autoamerican (1980) pioneered the rock/rap crossover with Rapture. The group disbanded in 1982 and Harry pursued other projects, releasing four solo albums. The group reformed in 1998, achieving renewed success and a number one single, Maria, in the United Kingdom the following year.
