Born in the village of Neora near Patna, Sir Ali Imam was educated in England. When he returned to Patna in 1917, he took a position as a Judge at Patna High Court. He served as chief minister of the princely state of Hyderabad, British India and was a law member in the Imperial legislative Council. British India gave him the title of 'Sir'. In 1908 Sir Ali Imam was elected as the President of Muslim League at Amritsar Annual Session, in addition he served as President for the Nationalist Muslims Conference at Lucknow (1931). He played a pivotal role in the formation of the Constitution of Bihar as a separate province.
