He was my great uncle..
I have two of his pictures in my possession..
A drawing/watercolour dated 1899..
And an oil dated 1915..

At last the 33ft wide frieze sculpture by Mr Newbury A. Trent from the former Doncaster Gaumont Palace Cinema has been restored and displayed in Sir Nigel Gresley Square. The historical frieze (created in 1934) was last seen in 1968 when the Deco façade was hidden by cladding.

I can add to my note of 15 November 2016 by confirming that Lots Road power station (built 1902-05) did originally have four chimneys (which appear in the oil painting), but two of these were demolished in the 1960s. The painting is so well executed that it is curious that Trent is not known as both sculptor and painter, but perhaps his output was tiny. Does anybody else have any paintings by him?

A Gaumont British Frieze, created by sculptor Newbury Abbot Trent in 1934, was recently recovered from its dumping in Rose Hill Cemetery and moved to Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery grounds. after a successful campaign led by Ron Curry MBE in its rescue.
The frieze 33ft long in 7 panels used to adorn the front of the Doncaster Gaumont Palace Cinema, It depicts the making of a film, from the writing of the story, to the building of the sets, and lastly the shooting of the film.

Newbury Trent was the father of my godmother Jennifer Wright nee Trent. My mother- Beatrice (Bettie) Field) Priestley knew the family when they used to come down to Clymping, West Sussex for their summer holidays. He gave art lessons to people in the area. I have a small sculpture of two children with their arms around each other. Also a Christmas Card made by Newbury in the twenties.

N A Trent was not only a sculptor. He was also a painter in oils. I have a painting by him signed N A Trent and dated 1914. The subject is a river scene with a sailing barge and four chimneys of a power station in the background. It is well painted and shows the influence of Whistler's river scenes. The identity of the power station is uncertain as it does not look like the modern Battersea. Did Lots Road have four chimneys? As Trent had a studio at 1 Beaufort Street, it is very likely that he painted this picture from observation of the nearby river scene.
