Hello,
The subject of the above Dighton etchings is not Sir William Parsons but rather The Right Reverend John Parsons MA, DD. He was probably born in 1761 - the year of his baptism, and died in 1819). He was Master of Balliol College, Oxford from 1798; & Vice-Chancellor 1807-1810; Dean of Bristol 1810-1813, then Bishop of Peterborough 1813-1819.
He is dressed in the Convocation robes of an Oxford University Doctor of Divinity: cassock with broad sash, black MA style gown with the sleeves pulled through the sleeveless scarlet Convocation habit, black silk scarf, scarlet DD hood and white lawn bands.
