The Aboyne portrait photographer, Robert Milne, was brother to Elizabeth Irvine Milne who married William Payne of Dublin in September 1890. That couple, married in an Aboyne wedding ceremony at the bride's parents' home, went on to extensive mission work in Argentina and Bolivia, work which is celebrated today by thousands of people in South America. Will Payne, a photographer himself, submitted photos to National Geographic. Margaret Milne, another sister of Robert, married George Langdon, a friend of Will Payne. The Langdons were also involved for years in missionary work in Argentina.

Regarding the Milne's. The Reverend John Grant Michie wrote a number of books on the history of Cromar, an area between Aboyne and Ballater. Michie was a schoolmaster and then a Minister between Aboyne and Ballater at a small hamlet called Dinnet.
In one of those books is included a picture of the Manse at Logie Coldstone 1899. It is noted as :from a photograph by R. Milne Aboyne and Ballater:. It is on commons wikimedia too at the link added shown below.
I also have a copy of a photograph probably taken ariund the same time, likely of some relatives of mine in Aboyne. On that there is no writing but I wonder if it was also by Milne. Is there any way I could find out if it was his and so more information about the subjects. Do you have more records of his less "official/ Royal work" ? I look forward to hearing from you.
