Robert Lyon was the Principal of the Edinburgh College of Art from 1942 to 1960. He won a Rome scholarship as a young man and was a fellow student of Henry Moore in Rome. He taught the Ashington Group and is portrayed in the play, “Pitman Painters.” He had been commissioned in the field in World War after World War Two he worked in Germany, with the rank of brigadier, for an allied commission charged with finding looted art
