Lady Blanche was an amateur aviatrix who fell in love with her flying instructor, 'Oggie' Ogden. Following the course of the Melbourne air race, and taking off from her private airfield in Wiltshire, they made a detour to visit a Maharajah in India, but after engine failure downed their plane, went missing in the Basra desert of Mesopotamia before being discovered weeks later partying in the house of a local sultan. The Reuters reporter had it that: "Lady Blanche has only recently taken up flying".
