Athar-Ali Fyzee
(1883-1963), Tennis player; OlympianSitter in 1 portrait
Indian, international tennis and table-tennis player. He was born in Bombay (now Mumbai), India on 28 August 1883. He participated in 12 tournaments at Wimbledon, the first in 1910 and the last in 1933. At Wimbledon in 1930 he lost in the first round against American Bill Tilden (6-1, 6-0, 6-2) and in 1932, the second round against German Gottfried von Cramm (6-4, 6-3, 6-1). He reached the quarter finals for the Davis Cup with his team twice in 1921 and 1922. He competed in tennis at the 1924 Paris Olympics. In 1926 he took part in the first World Table Tennis Championships in London. Here he won the bronze medal with the Indian men's team which included his brother Hassan Ali Fyzee.
