Sir Peter Mansfield
(1933-2017), PhysicistSitter in 1 portrait
Mansfield was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2003 for his contribution to the invention of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). His vision and research have made widespread clinical use of the technique a reality. MRI scanners are today used in hospitals all over the world and it is estimated that over 60 million investigations with MRI are carried out every year. Mansfield also worked on the introduction of new applications for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance as a medical technique.
