Catherine Goodman

Catherine Goodman was born in London in 1961. She attended Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and the Royal Academy Schools before winning the 1987 Royal Academy Gold Medal. In 2002 she won first prize in the BP Portrait Award for her painting of Dom Anthony Sutch, the Benedictine monk and Master of Downside School. A gestural, tonal painter, whose subjects are landscapes, cityscapes, interiors and people, Goodman's work is rooted in the tradition of the School of London. The artist is Director of the Prince of Wales's Drawing School, a centre that promotes observational drawing in fine art teaching. She lives and works in London, where she exhibits with Marlborough Fine Art.
