Black was part of the 400 metres relay team that won silver medals at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. At the same Games he won a silver medal for the 400 metres. Black's greatest achievements have been at the European Championships, where he won five gold medals between 1986 and 1994 for the 400 metres and 4 x 400 metres relay. He has subsequently worked as a television presenter.
