The first scheduled, professional television programme service in Britain was inaugurated by the Baird Development Co from its studios at 133 Long Acre on 31 March 1930. Lancashire lass Gracie Fields and Yorkshire lass Annie Croft were first up. Annie sang "New Lamps for Old".
