Tushar Patel

Paralympian, marathon and 5,000 metres wheelchair athlete. Polio contracted at a young age caused irreversible paralysis to his legs. He won two Gold, two Silver and two Bronze medals at the World Wheelchair Games in 1996 at the age of seventeen, just a year after getting involved in the sport. Won the Great North Run in 2002 and came second in the London Marathon in the same year. Patel was a specialist summariser on television offering expert analysis for the 2004 Athens Paralympics. He achieved thirteenth place in the wheelchair category of the Great North Run 2009 and continues to work hard towards his dream goal of competing in the London 2012 Paralympics.
