Initially sent to school at Eton, Carr left at the age of 16 to train at Camberwell and Cheltenham Schools of Art. A chance meeting with Andy Warhol resulted in an introduction to the influential art dealer Robert Fraser, who became Carr's first agent and staged the artist's first show in 1983. Rejecting oil paint, Carr was to focus on drawings throughout his career.
