Amanda Foreman

Historian. Born in London. Studied at Sarah Lawrence College, Columbia University, New York. and the University of Oxford. Her publications include Gender in Eighteenth Century England: Roles, Representations and Responsibilities (1997). Her book Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire won the Whitbread Prize for Best Biography in 1999. She currently lives in New York where she is working on her new book on the British volunteers who fought in the American Civil War.
