Atholl Blair was my maternal grandfather. His father was Sir Robert Blair who was instrumental in introducing evening classes to the GLC. Atholl was educated in Scotland but made his name in Belfast as an engineer at Harland & Wolff.

This was my great grandfather. He was awarded the cbe for services to industry. He was a Director of Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast which played a critical role in the war building and repairing ships for the effort.

Atholl was on the maiden voyage of the Olympic (the first of the three sister ships to be built) and luckily not the Titanic.
