Professor James Eadie Todd was my grandfather, he was born in Duns, Berwickshire in 1885 and studied History first at Edinburgh university, subsequently at Balliol College Oxford under Sir Paul Vinogradoff. He served two university appointments in Canada and one at Edinburgh University before taking the chair at Queen's, Belfast.
