William Charles Eric Rudkin was the first son of George Mark Archibald Rudkin (1847-1913) of Teignmouth, Devon and Amy Frances Hearn. William was born on 22nd February 1875. He served in the South African (Boer) War of 1899-1902, wounded, mentioned in dispatches, awarded Queens Medal with 6 clasps. He also served in Nigeria 1906, dispatches, awarded DSO. He served in the First World War, was wounded twice, mentioned in dispatches seven times. He was made ADC to the King. He bacame a Brigadier General in January 1920. He died on 1st January 1930 and is buried in Teignmouth Cemetery. He married Mabel Stark Billard of Toronto, Canada on 4th February 1929 at the British Consulate, Teneriffe.
