Francesco Scavullo
(1921-2004), PhotographerArtist of 5 portraits
A career over five decades made Scavullo's name synonymous with fashion and beauty. Born in New York, he became interested in photography as a child. As a teen he began taking photographs of his sister and her friends. His professional career began at the age of nineteen, when he was signed by Seventeen and shot his first cover. Assignments quickly followed from Town & Country, Good Housekeeping and Ladies' Home Journal. In 1955 he began working at Harper's Bazaar and ten years later began shooting for Cosmopolitan. His portraits graced the covers of Cosmopolitan for over thirty years. He published several books. His work is held in both private and public collections.
