May Cuyler, daughter of a major from New Jersey, was considered one of the most beautiful women in London. She married Sir Philip Grey-Egerton, 12th Baronet of Egerton and Oulton, in London in 1893. The wedding received extensive press coverage, featuring lists of the jewels received as gifts, including a diamond tiara. The marriage ended in divorce in 1906, and her twin sons both died in action in World War I.
