Hi.. Blas Rangel is one of the photographers I have been researching as he had a studio in my home town of Stafford around 1873/5. I have three Carte de Visite from this period that give studio locations in Foregate, Stafford and Penmaenmawr N.W. I have copied the information I have below.. taken from Census records, Newspaper archives and your own information.

In Stafford 1873. Travelling?

1861- Blas Rangel is 21 years old and residing at 168 South Street, Greenwich London. He is a lodger and the only person recorded at this house, his occupation is ‘clerk to ?????? agent’

1864- Oxford Times 23rd April /14th May. Advertisement for Rangel and Taphouse 7 Park end Street, Oxford. photographers offering photographic copy work and photographs taken of groups, families and equestrian.

1867- Marriage recorded to Elizabeth Swornbourne in Greenwich, London.

1868- Cambridge Chronicle, 18th July. Reports that B Rangels new photographic Studio is now open at the Roman Rooms, Jesus Lane Cambridge.

1868- Cambridge Chronicle and Journal, 29th August. Article reports Mr Rangel a photographer has expressed an interest in leasing part of a the Roman Bath building in Jesus Lane, Cambridge and opening an ale house. The matter was referred to a later meeting.

1869- Norwich Mercury, 13th January. Reports that Blas Rangel a photographers assistant is bankrupt (article copied from London Gazette)

1873- Records show the birth and death of an infant named Blas Rangel in Stafford.

1875- North Wales Chronicle, 12th June. Article reporting that Mr Rangel a Chinese photographer from Penmaenmawr was at a local botanical garden photographing a Cerus Grandiflorous. (see article)

1878- Cambridge Independent Press 23rd November. A poor law case is reported where 38 year old photographer Blas Rangel a resident in Farndon Avenue, Manchester is charged with neglecting to maintain his wife and children. (see article for full detail.)

1870’s- National portrait Gallery hold a Carte De Visite of Michael Packenham Edgeworth dated 1870’s and an Albumen print of Sir James Paget 1st Bt dated 1870 by Rangel who has studios at 246 Regent Street and Penmaenmawr N W.
