A trawl of the internet has revealed some facts about this lady tennis player's later life and family. She lived in the U.S.A. from 1939 onwards , where she died in 2018, but there is almost nothing about her early life in England. However, my family had a friend called Ronald Brown from 1949 until the mid-1970s when he died, and he once told us that he had a sister who had won the Wimbledon mixed doubles championships. He and his sisters were brought up in a large house at Sewardstonebury, which his parents owned, and which was situated just north of Chingford, London E.4. The garden must have been large for it contained a tennis court or courts, where his sisters would have played. I understand that the father owned a small chain of retail shops in east London, drapery stores, perhaps, but I cannot remember now.
