Tony Alexander Adams

Footballer and Football Manager. Born in Romford, Adams joined Arsenal F.C. in 1980, making his debut as a defender aged seventeen. He was the club's captain between 1988 and 2002 and played for England from 1987 to 2000. In 1998 he published Addicted in which he wrote of his battle with alcoholism, and later founded the Sporting Chance Clinic aimed at providing support for sportsmen and women suffering from drink, drug and gambling addictions. Adams retired from playing professional football in 2002. He was awarded an MBE in 1999.
