Brand is a controversial comedian, well known for pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable. He made his Edinburgh Festival debut in 2000, has received awards for his stand-up act and first achieved prominence on television for Big Brother's Big Mouth (2004-7). Further TV shows included The Russell Brand Show (2006) and Russell Brand's Ponderland (2007-9). He has also developed his career in radio, and as a film actor. His first major role was in the film Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) and he starred in the remake of the Dudley Moore film Arthur (2011). In 2010 the second instalment of his autobiography, Booky Wook 2, was published.
