I personally knew the Earl of Essex as we lived on his farm in Wingrave Buckinghamshire, He was a very kind person and indeed he also helped the family out . My father was his head farmworker and he very often gave us tickets to test matches at Lords as he was a member. I always remember his passions for the farm which included amongst other things an old cloth top landcover , a tVO powered tractor and his beloved wire-haired terrier called Patsy. Unfortunately his later life saw him severely immobilised due a stroke whilst doing a job around the farm , but he kept his spirit up concerning the countryside by hosting the local beagle hounds once a year to the farm.
