Anna Wintour

(1949-), Editor of American Vogue

As Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue since 1988, and artistic director for Condé Nast, British-born Wintour has made a significant contribution to the international fashion industry. Previously editor of British Vogue (1984-7), Wintour is credited with boosting the circulation and reinvigorating both titles in the Vogue franchise. She has also worked as a journalist on magazine titles including Harper's and Queen and House and Garden. Her work at American Vogue has been documented in the film The September Issue (2009). In 2013 Wintour became artistic director for Condé Nast, Vogue's publisher.
