This person is my great grandmother. She was a much-loved actor and teacher. Mrs. Patrick Campbell speaks well of her. She was probably the first person to dramatise the works of Jane Austen. She produced the first season at the Old Vic. One of her daughters, Rosemary, married the actor and author, Russell Thorndike, brother of Dame Sybil Thorndike. The writer R. Temple Thurston dedicates his book, The City of Beautiful Nonsense to her, with the inscription,"To Whom I am indebted for the Gift of Laughter....". She played with many of the "names"of her day, and taught many others.
