George Evans Moule
(1828-1912), First Missionary Bishop of mid-China (later Chekiang)Sitter in 4 portraits
Moule sailed to Shanghai to work for the Church Missionary Society in 1857, and carried out many trips to provinces ravaged by the Taiping rebels. In 1880 he was consecrated as the first bishop of the new diocese of mid-China. One of Moule's pupils, Tsaeseng Sing, became the first bishop of Chinese heritage.
