Joan Selby-Lowndes was the daughter of the Rev E A Selby-Lowndes, vicar of St Mary's church, Whaddon, Buckinghamshire. She was in the ATS in WW2 serving in Monte Cassino etc. She was the author of many books for children; some of the books were set in the village in which she grew up.
