(1854-1921), Society hostess and writerSitter in 25 portraits
American-born heiress and society figure and mother of Sir Winston Churchill. One of the first so-called 'buccaneers' to cross the ocean, setting the trend of marrying into British aristocracy. In 1867 she and her two sisters were taken to Paris by their mother, and her education and introduction to society followed the manner of the European upper classes. In 1873 she met Lord Randolph Churchill, son of the Duke of Marlborough, marrying him in 1874. During the Boer War she fund-raised to staff and equip a hospital ship, the Maine, which was active in South Africa. She authored Reminiscences of Lady Randolph Churchill , two plays and a collection of articles Short Talks on Big Subjects.

Her first name was Jennie not Jeanette, per her 1874 marriage license, in which her name is typed as JENNIE JEROME and which she also signed as JENNIE JEROME. Happy to email a photocopy of the page from the British Embassy in Paris marriage record.
